Running has become such a great social outlet lately, I can't believe how many new friends that I have made from running. The first social running event was last weekend, the North Texas Runners kick-off social run. It was a perfect morning--sunny, 50 degrees, and a slight breeze--and just what I needed to erase the yuckiness of the previous week's runs (Big D Half marathon and a yucky training run a few days later). A nice 11 miles at a comfortable pace with a group of friends on that beautiful morning was good for my running soul. I am looking forward to more runs with this newly formed group. By the way, how fun is it to be in on the very first run of a new running group!!

This past weekend also brought another social/running opportunity, our Beer and Bagels Group got together for our 2nd trail run. The weather wasn't so great (make that hot and humid once again) but the trails were beautiful, the company was great, the beer was cold, and the bagels were fresh. I didn't have my best run that morning--I was really feeling the heat--but I LOVED those trails and I can't wait to get out there again. It is hard to believe that there are such beautiful places so close to a big city. I think that there is something therapeutic about running on a trail by a lake, it is just good for the soul. I really enjoy this group of runners and again, I can't wait for our next gathering--I am enjoying trail running way more than I ever thought that I would. It is just a whole 'nother scene from road running.

It will be back to the road and back to racing this weekend and next. I am setting some big goals for myself at the Heels and Hills Half on Sunday. This is a special race to me because I had a huge PR there last May. I have high hopes that I can capture a little bit of magic again this year...cross your fingers for me (meaning--hope for good weather!). I will also be racing a half marathon the following Saturday...that's right, 2 half marathons in one week--a new challenge for me. I don't have any huge expectations for the 2nd race, but who knows...
Very cool! Looks like fun groups!
ReplyDeleteMany things you said here strike a chord with me. I love getting to know all of you guys, and being able to bump into you pre/post race unplanned is comforting. Makes the metroplex feel a little smaller, and a little more like home.
